چکیده

Background Left atrial (LA) wall fibrosis has been demonstrated to play a major role in the pathogenesis and treatment response of atrial fibrillation (AF). The DECAAF study demonstrated that quantification of LA fibrosis by delayed-enhancement MRI (DE-MRI) predicts outcomes after AF catheter ablation. Currently, a number of catheter ablation methods targeting specific regions of the LA are used, including pulmonary vein isolation and posterior wall debulking. We investigate the role of spatial distribution of fibrosis in the LA on outcomes after catheter ablation.

Impact of left atrial fibrosis and left atrial size on the outcome of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation.

BACKGROUND Left atrial (LA) dilatation is an important risk factor for recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) after radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA). However, the clinical applications to select patients eligible for RFCA according to LA size is limited. Additional pre-procedural assessment of LA fibrosis might improve patient selection for RFCA. OBJECTIVE To investigate the impact of ...

Cardiac Remodeling After Atrial Fibrillation Ablation.

Radiofrequency catheter ablation procedures are considered a reasonable option for patients with symptomatic, drug refractory atrial fibrillation (AF). Ablation procedures have been reported to effectively restore sinus rhythm and provide long-term relief of symptoms. Both electrical and structural remodeling occurs with AF. A reversal of the electrical remodeling develops within 1 week after r...

Left atrial voltage, circulating biomarkers of fibrosis, and atrial fibrillation ablation. A prospective cohort study

AIMS To test the ability of four circulating biomarkers of fibrosis, and of low left atrial voltage, to predict recurrence of atrial fibrillation after catheter ablation. BACKGROUND Circulating biomarkers potentially may be used to improve patient selection for atrial fibrillation ablation. Low voltage areas in the left atrium predict arrhythmia recurrence when mapped in sinus rhythm. This st...

The Role of Atrial Structural Remodeling in Atrial Fibrillation Ablation:An Imaging Point of View for Predicting Recurrence.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia and is associated with a significant morbidity and mortality. Invasive catheter ablation of AF has emerged as an effective therapy for patients with symptomatic AF. Atrial remodeling, particularly structural remodeling, is important not only for AF persistence but also for AF recurrence after ablation. Atrial dilation and fibrosis are two o...

Role of serum TGF-β1 level in atrial fibrosis and outcome after catheter ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) concentration and atrial fibrosis and to determine whether plasma TGF-β1 concentration is an independent predictor of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after catheter ablation. We included 98 consecutive patients who underwent catheter ablation, including 38 with paroxysmal AF (AF group) and 60 w...
